JACA ND has come to life based on being a part of the North Dakota Foster Care system and seeing first hand what happens when there is a verified case of child abuse. The first step in stopping child abuse is thru Education. Not every reported case has to result in a chilld's removal. With the proper guidance many times the reason for a case being reported can be corrected and the child can remain in their home.
The primary purpose of JACA ND is to help educate people on how to identify possible Child Abuse and how to report incidents of Child Abuse.
The main focus of education is not just for adults, but also for the children that either have noticed Child Abuse and didn’t know to report it; or for a child that is in a situation of Child Abuse and is afraid to report it.
The stigma is that Child Abuse is primarily a physical scenario, unaware that mental abuse, sexual abuse, lack of nutrition and other life essentials is also a key component to Child Abuse. Another misunderstanding about Child Abuse is that every abused child is removed from the home. That is not 100% accurate, through this organization (JACA) and organizations such as Families Flourish ND (FFND), outlets for seeking help will also be presented, as there are many resources some families are unaware of that can help them.
In JACA is setup to help raise funding for local Prevent Child Abuse America . PCAA is a non-profit that relies heavily on Federal and State funding and donations. However, that is not always enough based on current staff versus the workload. JACA will also help in the Educational side of PCAA, by hosting a variety of events, going to schools and other community events.
